Celebration of the 250th anniversary of the independence of the United States by the Cultural Office of the Embassy of Spain in Washington, D.C.
In Portraits: 12 Lives, 12 Journeys, an outstanding group of contemporary Spanish comics artists reimagines the expe¬riences of prominent Spaniards from fields such as literature, the arts, science, and popular culture who spent part of their lives in the United States.
These stories are not conventional biographies; they do not seek to list achievements or summarize entire lives, but rather to explore the most intimate dimensions of emigration. Through the language of sequential art, each artist approa¬ches their subject from a personal perspective, whether docu¬mentary, poetic, symbolic, or even dreamlike. The result is a mosaic of voices and styles that reveals the complexity of living in another country while holding on to one’s identity.
